First in Jerusalem (May 27, 2014), and more recently in Rome (June 8, 2014), Patriarch Bartholomew hammers the message of universal brotherhood with intra-Christian and interfaith prayer services (which according to the canons of the Orthodox Church are prohibited) and with statements and declarations to that effect.
In answering a question from a journalist (July 29, 2013), the pope spoke impromptu about homosexual priests, but his words apply equally to everyone: “If a person is gay and seeks the Lord…and has good will…who am I to judge such person?” What I read in them is: Don’t judge someone who, being a homosexual, struggles with this “tendency” (his term). I will comment on homosexuality and on judging others.
